SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4) - Outspoken state senator Jim Dabakis (D) launched his push to eliminate the sales tax on food at a summit to address poverty.
The three-percent tax on food has been in effect for years. Dabakis told the crowd he wants it wiped out because it's just not fair to the poor. He also says other state legislators need to get on board.
"Let's go on the offense," he says."Let's say are you guys craze, we're not gonna fight to keep the 3 percent, we're gonna fight to end it. This is a bad tax. It's not right."
Dabakis will try to push that bill through the legislature next February.
